High-Voltage Engineer
Job Description:
As our High-Voltage Engineer, you will liaise with clients remotely and on-site, offering effective solutions. Leveraging your skills to build and manage complex engineering and construction projects. Sizing and designing medium – high voltage cabling.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Design and Installation:
- Design high-voltage electrical systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.
- Install and test high-voltage equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on high-voltage equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with high-voltage systems, including faults and malfunctions.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA and IEC.
- Implement safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure worker safety.
Project Management:
- Manage projects from planning to execution, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
Testing and Analysis:
- Conduct tests and analyze data to ensure high-voltage systems are functioning correctly.
- Use software tools, such as ETAP and SKM-PTW, for full load and power flow modelling, earth/fault, and harmonic studies.
Requirements and Skills:
- Qualified electrical engineer with a minimum of an honours degree in electrical engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent
- 7-12 years’ postgraduate experience in the electrical engineering sector
- Proven experience in the design and construction of HV/MV substations
- Experience in utility grid contestable design and delivery of connections at 38kV and above
- Experience undertaking energy rating calculations for high voltage cables
- Knowledge of electrical plant including large power transformers, reactive power compensation solutions, MC / LV auxiliary systems and switchgear
- Familiarity with the Safety Health & Welfare at Work Regulations and the roles of the PSDP and PSCS
- Knowledge of Eirgrid / ESB design standards and requirements
- Experience preparing detailed works contract specifications and drawings
- Excellent report writing and verbal communication skills
- Proven experience in design and construction of solar farm electrical works packages
- Chartered membership of a recognized professional body in the engineering sector
- LV/MV power systems design
Education/Experience:
- Third-level qualification in Engineering.
- 5-years experience, focused on substation, high voltage and medium voltage projects.
- Size, design, and coordinate the implementation of medium voltage solutions.
- Comfortable with conceptualisation and on-site inspections, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of medium voltage installations.
- Seasoned knowledge of medium voltage cabling, switchgear, instrument transformers, protection, metering, and control schemes.
- Ability to produce relevant technical documentation including schematics, calculations, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of MV protection relays.
- Ability to identify and remedy technical problems related to medium voltage systems.
